These are just a few of the clothing options I found in my research. Over the ages, women have gone to some serious lengths in the name of beauty. Italian women used to put drops of the poison Belladonna in their eyes to make them bigger, while European women would put a concoction of lead oxide on their faces to appear "porcelain". It also caused muscle paralysis.

Cool, but doesn't do much if Romeo came a calling. ;)

Must admit, there are some weird customs.

That's exactly why. If she couldn't move very fast, she couldn't go very far. It was also thought that of as a way to ensure chastity. It was too painful for the woman to go very far, thus making it nearly impossible to sneak off and be with someone else.

OK, the only way I can see that small feet can give a man more control over a woman is that it would make it harder for them to get away. Other than that I just don't get it.

LOL, yep remember them well. Here in the States we called the Bell-Bottoms. My dad had a pair he called Elephant Earred because the flair was so big. Not sure if that's what they were really called or not, but they were huge. LOL

Do you remember flared jeans and trousers, and how some of the trousers had cuffed bottoms. Man, they were so cool and actually saved me money as sometimes I would find some coins I dropped actually ended up in the cuffs :D
